Ok so its time to stock up on deadly autumn flies if you still have fishing on the horizon which many of you will have. The Tweed will produce until end November along with many more destinations in the Uk. We have all the best Autumn killers right here....

The Helmsdale is on its last legs and the penultimate week still produced around 60 fish with pretty stale warm conditions. As per usual it is the anglers who can adapt best to stimulate fish which will catch most. Skating sunrays, deploying the hitch and also depth charging copper and tungsten Frances flies, these tactics will work for the next 2 months unless big water makes it all a little easier. As temps drop flies will increase in size and density, below are some pics of the best. You can grab them all and more on slte.....and from Twisted Thistle Fochabers.

The Helmsdale had around 160 fish off last week, one of the better weeks with good water. So far it has been a tough season with no records broken but like most rivers, there have been decent weeks.

This week we have our Willie Gunn Firetail on offer so if you want to try this cracking fly now is your chance to grab some at a discount price, please click here to buy - http://www.helmsdalecompany.com/rs-willie-gunn-firetail.html

We also have loads of deadly autumn coneheads and tubes which will get you right down in front of fish, red Frances are as good as any.

Willie Gunn Firetail below, one of our top flies this season, superb in coloured water on a sinking tip especially in autumn. We also have all the tips you need.

Latest - over 100 fish off last week w/c 5th August, best week of the season. Visitor Will Marshall hooked 4 in one day and landed the best of them at 10lbs sea-liced on the Association water...

After an unusually quiet week of around only 20 fish off the whole river 3rd week of July it has picked up but the fishing is far from record breaking. Recent forestry clearance has blackened the water and the fish are not impressed. On a more positive note there seem to be good numbers of fish in the river but they are just a little more difficult to catch. August could be a big month but the peak of the summer run may well be past. The Association water is still well worth a cast as usual as Adam Macdonald proved last week picking up 2 on Monday, there were around 10 off for the week.

We are now offering for the first time an opportunity to order your favourite flies in any size for delivery in 2020. We have some major killers out of stock right now and are in the process of retying them all. Please contact us and order your absolute "Go To" flies in multiples of 6 per size and we will get you on our list. Please contact asap if you can to secure your deadly stock, an example of a huge quick seller was our micro SuperSnaelda range....and Naked Kinermony Patriot doubles in smaller sizes.

The rivers are up again as we speak so its a great chance to catch some salmon wherever you fish in the UK, our Naked Alistair coneheads would be a very highly recommended tubefly in the peaty water for starters but we have so many more. You can buy them here - http://www.helmsdalecompany.com/rs-naked-alistair.html

Things are picking up at long last on the Helmsdale but there are no record numbers. The grilse run has arrived and last week produced around 60 plus one pink salmon on the beats. The Association water had 4 fish one day, it is picking away and well worth a day ticket at this time of the year.

Salmon are being caught in good numbers everywhere now and our huge range of flies are accounting for many of them. below are a couple of our most successful. From our new collection the RS Allys Supersquid has been a revelation. Based on the legendary Allys Shrimp Rons specialist tweaking has taken it to a whole new level and you should grab some for your summer and autumn box, they are simply deadly.

Another superb killer has been our Cascade Monkey silver tungsten conehead which we have in a range of sizes down to a stunning micro tube.

The RS Cascade FireTail is the hottest fly out there right now. Ron has designed these with an explosion of solar light in the tail which also helps stop it wrapping around the hook and keep perfect fly profile. These are stunners for all conditions especially peaty water. Click above to buy.

The Helmsdale has been easing into summer mode with a fairly decent run of msw fish. The North has been lucky in that heavy rain has kept topping up rivers offering some great sport reported from the Borgie South. Seatrout and grilse are now arriving and if the weather settles all should be set for a great summer.

Our flies have fished superb as per usual and not just here but all over the Northern hemisphere, in particular our SuperSnaelda sets and new SuperSquid cascade coneheads, Laerdal Sunrays and Baby Temple Dogs are also beginning to make their mark as temps try to rise. We have been inuntaded with International orders this year in particular, this is obviously a result of the constant success and quality of our flies and our expert customer service and advice. We stock all the gear required from size 18s tube trebles for Iceland to large manacing Laerdal sunrays for Norway/Russia/Sweden and have been recently contacted to stock a few large flyshops in Scandinavia.

Have a good look around out website if you are fishing this year....our big tip for this summer is go with Baby tds, RS SuperSquid Cascade coneheads, Firetail Cascades, Willie Dog Crimp coneheads Wee alistair tubes/hitch and Solar Monkey if the water keeps coming.

Tight lines....you will see all these flies if you scroll down over previous reports.

Alistair hitch tube. Click here to grab some - http://www.helmsdalecompany.com/alistair-hitch-tube-pro-choice.html

Its all getting a little stale everywhere right now unless you have been lucky enough to catch some meaningful rain somewhere in the UK but our overseas orders are crashing in with high hopes of good seasons in Iceland, Russia and Scandinavia.

Check out our range of Hitch, Laerdal Sunrays, Frances and New Collection flies, there is more than enouugh there to kit you out for a superb weeks fishing. Green & Blue Ass Willie Gunn, superb SuperSquid tubes and much more

The Helmsdale has had the best spring in 10 years, great news in a troubled spell for returning salmon but an  injection of water is required once again to get the fishing going otherwise it will be lean pickings until the sea-trout and grilse start to arrive in June.

One of our best sellers below, the new Supersquid Cascade conehead (below). We have it in 4 sizes right down to an incredible micro conehead...you must get some of these in your box for the summer. Click here to order them - http://www.helmsdalecompany.com/rs-supersquid-cascade-conehead.html

There were around 35 fish off the Helmsdale last week, considering the low water it was a pretty good effort. The next spate will provide good fishing as there are encouraging numbers of fish being seen in the river.

If you are heading abroad soon, chaeck out our tube fly box below which is full of the biggest killers you need for early season. We have been kitting out trips abroad for 20 years and the feedback we receive is invaluable, we know exactly whats catching in Iceland, Scandinavia, Russia and South America and can kit your trip out no problem.

Here is an order (below) we have just made up for a party heading to Norway and Iceland (6 dozen), it is filling in gaps for them as they are already well equipped with our Frances flies.

Our deadly early season selection in a cracking new tube fly box which has compartments that you can easily customise for any length of fly - click here to buy the box, flies/hooks not included but we can add them for you if you contact us - http://www.helmsdalecompany.com/new-tube-fly-box-pro-choice.html

As the fishing has gone a little quiet with low water its time to let you know that we have our legendary Loop Cross S1 salmon rods on a mouthwatering deal right now....Arguably the best salmon rods ever constructed. I have been using them for the last few years along with a big following who all know the script on them. Effortless power and lightness from a 4 piece rod which flexes with you, its not a poker but it can launch anything you load it with and they are an absolute joy to cast with. But don't take my word for it, snap one up and see for yourself!

There is nothing wrong in slugging it out with bargain basement rods, they will get the line out. But, you will always be holding your casting ability back because the better you get at casting, the more your old rod will fail to produce the results you deserve. The Loop Cross does the opposite, Whether you are a Pro or a novice, Cross rods let you operate to your maximum ability on every cast, you will wish you had picked one up years ago! Team them up with a Gaelforce, Loop or Carron line and you have the greatest casting tool on the planet, its that simple.

You can buy the Loop Cross with one click right here - http://www.helmsdalecompany.com/loop-s1-cross-salmon-rods.html

You will also receive these superb summer killers with every rod and we will do deals on salmon lines to make everything work for you...cant be fairer than that, now treat yourself!

Low water

The Helmsdale is picking away with around 30 off in the last week, the Association water also produced a few, the low water suits that beat so it is well worth getting a day ticket.

Tactical options are evolving fast as the season progresses and temps rise. Salmon are now being tempted right on the surface hammering into sunray shadow tubes fished fast and square as well as coneheads fished a little deeper. The most successful anglers always carry a wide range of flies tied on different densities to cover any eventuality. Fishing a nice long line with intermediate tip and letting your chosen fly swing steadily all day works! But, always be prepared to quickly change your approach to a full floating setup and smaller fly if the temperature rises and there is surface action. Shorten up your line, raise your rod tip and tease a fast moving plastic Sunray Shadow and prepare for some monumental offers...salmon really do almost make your heart stop as they aggressively explode onto tubes fished this way. Keep all options open, fish a tungsten tube through heavy likely looking water as fish will happily grab a fly presented right on their nose just as they will also come a long way for a wee double or tube fished on the surface in a likely looking glide at the tail of a pool.

We everything you need to catch salmon in all situations from our super slick Gaelforce and Loop lines right down to the tiniest micro tube. If you want to have some real casting satisfaction this season why not treat yourself to a magical Loop Cross rod and line to match or a full Gaelforce setup....no salmon will be safe as your water coverage will seriously improve trust me, contact us or simply buy online with ease.

Some more recently successful Helmsdale anglers below, Alistairs and Gold Body Willie Gunns doing the damage in a week when their party had 8 on the Achentoul rods with ghillie George "hardy" Sutherland and a helping hand from Johnny Hardy.

Please feel free to send us your fishy pics for all to view, we have 10k signed up to this fishing report now so your news will travel far and wide.

Alan Shanahan with a belting 15 pounder from Ewe's Neuk on beat 5

Pano Constantinedes, vale of tears beat 6 with another 15 pounder.

I mentioned that a good day was had on beat 6 last week for the Torrish rods, here are the happy faces to prove it! The river was at a perfect height for the Little Rock pool which sits below the Kildonan falls section of the Helmsdale river. Springers are being caught practically everywhere now and when temps and water height come together there is always a great chance of some good sport on beat 6 as fish pause to comtemplate the fierce challenge ahead. As you can see, the boys took full advantage!

I don't have much details on the tackle used but copper tubes and coneheads fished off sinking tips is perfect for April if there is good water. Our flies are selling like hot cakes this season as the new collection is being digested by the salmon angling world. Grab some when you have the chance and get on the water....The fishing is gathering pace and the fish are in!

Fishing well.

Over 40 fish have come off the Helmsdale in the last fortnight and 4 off beat 6 on Saturday past by Torrish rods. Big water washed out a couple of days but the fish are in and it should fish nicely this week as the weather and water settles.

Struggling to keep up with orders right now as everyone seems to be out fishing, hence not so big fishing reports.....Gaelforce tips and lines are flying out the door as are our new collection flies, you can also grab them in the Twisted Thistle, Fochabers so make that trip! they are hammering salmon all over the UK!
